Surfing in Spain in January
Believe it or not this was ten days after christmas 2003.
This stretch of coastline on the Costa de la Luz is one of the most beautiful stretches of beach in Spain. The trouble is that for about 6 months of the year the wind there is so strong that it makes life a little depressing. Tarifa for instance has one of the highest suicide rates in the whole of Spain. Having said that the area is popular with the surfing community and has long been a wind and kite surfing Mecca.
Twenty degrees in the sunshine and the water must have been a chilly fifteen degrees, but the waves were good so we decided after donning our very thin wet suits to give it a try.
